Cashmeres

The long haired version of the Bengal Cat

14Karat Bengal Cashmere Kitten

While I have never had any dilute or solid colors pop up within any of my lines here at 14Karat Bengal I have upon occasion had a longhaired Bengal kitten appear. (Seventeen Cashmere Bengal kittens produced here to date.)

The long hair Bengal, also referred to as the Cashmere Bengal, is extremely rare and can be quite gorgeous. The Cashmere is the long haired variety of the Bengal Cat. Both parents have to carry the recessive gene for long hair for a Cashmere kitten to appear in a litter. The recessive gene for long hair is found in many short haired breeds. Many new breeds have been created from the long haired variety of a short haired breed. One such example is the Somali, the long haired variety of the Abyssinian. And, likewise, the Cashmere is the long haired variety of the Bengal Cat.

The Cashmere (long hair) Bengals of 14Karat Bengal represent what Cashmere breeders all over the world are trying to produce-- Gorgeous semi - long haired coats that boast big, contrasting rosettes. My Cashmeres have coats that boast very visible rosetting. Longhaired Bengals ( or Cashmeres) should have low - lying, semi - long coats so that rosettes are more visible. Cashmere bengals who have coats that are not low - lying have very poor marking visibility. Also, Cashmere Bengals should not have ruffs or manes as this will camouflage the wild type of the Bengal cat. Wild type in a Bengal includes fabulous long necks. If the Cashmere Bengal has a ruff / mane the long elegant, graceful long neck is concealed. The wild type of the Bengal cat needs to be preserved as much as possible in the Cashmere cats. My Cashmere cats are bred for semi-longer haired plumed tails. A Cashmeres semi-longer haired plume tail does not detract from the well balanced, graceful, long body of the Bengal cat. The Cashmere Bengal kitten / kittens of 14Karat Bengal are stunning! The Cashmere kittens coat is slightly fluffy and then as the Cashmere baby develops it becomes very smooth / flat, referred to as low - lying. The Cashmere kittens of 14Karat Bengal never have wavy or curly hair. The Cashmere kitten coat should always be staight. The Cashmere kitten coat feels like the softest cotton. The Cashmere kittens coat should never be wooly. Cashmere cats who have wooly coats tend to have very poor pattern visibility. 14 Karat Bengal coats are silky soft and never wooly looking.
